Rivervale supports residents with dementia in the same setting as everyone else. There is no separate dementia unit, and we don’t think one is the right answer here. Residents with dementia live alongside other residents, in the same home, with the same staff.
What Dementia Care Looks Like
The most useful things in dementia care are usually the simple ones: familiar staff, the same routines, the same rooms, regular contact with family. Rivervale is set up to keep those things in place even as a resident’s condition changes.
The single-storey layout helps too. The whole building is on one level, the corridors are wide, the flooring doesn’t change underfoot, and the central atrium acts as a clear anchor point. Finding your way around stays easier for longer than it would in a more complex building.
Who It’s For
Dementia care isn’t a separate admission. A long-term resident or a respite resident may have a dementia diagnosis, and the care approach reflects that. There’s no need for a separate placement to access dementia support.
Staff Training
Staff complete training in safeguarding and in supporting residents with dementia, including managing responsive behaviours.
