Palliative care at Rivervale is for residents whose needs have become more complex and where comfort, dignity, and quality of life are the focus rather than recovery.
What That Looks Like
Palliative care isn’t a separate admission or a different ward. It describes how care changes when a resident’s needs shift toward end of life. Registered nurses manage pain and symptoms day to day. The team works alongside families and, where it helps, with community palliative care specialists who already know the resident.
Residents stay in their own room, with the same staff who’ve cared for them throughout their stay. Continuity matters at that point more than at any other.
Family
Families are supported to spend as much time as they want with their relative. Visiting is open. Staff can talk through what to expect day to day, and what’s helpful to do. We will speak with families honestly and clearly throughout.
