Rivervale is a purpose-built nursing home just outside Nenagh, on the Old Birr Road. It opened in 2001 and has cared for residents from across North Tipperary ever since. The home is single-storey throughout and built around a central atrium, with three wings — East, West, and Respite — leading off it. Because everything is on one level, there are no stairs or lifts to manage, and the shared rooms and gardens are never more than a short walk from a resident’s door.
Bedrooms
Rivervale is registered for 43 residents, in a mixture of single and twin bedrooms, and every room is ensuite with its own shower, basin, and toilet. Rooms come furnished, but we encourage residents to bring their own things — photographs, a favourite armchair, a small chest of drawers — so the space feels like theirs from the day they arrive. Each room has a Saorview television and a nurse-call point within reach, and a portable phone is available for anyone who likes to make and take their own calls.
Shared Spaces
Daily life centres on the atrium and the rooms that open off it:
- The dining room, where meals are cooked on site and served fresh each day.
- The oak sitting room and oratory — a quieter space for reading, prayer, or time with visitors.
- Two conservatories off the atrium, one opening directly onto the garden.
- Day rooms used for activities and family gatherings.
- A hairdressing salon, served by a visiting hairdresser.
The Garden
A secure, enclosed garden sits to the rear of the home, open year-round and reached directly from inside, so residents can step out whenever they wish. Its paths, planting, and seating make it a place to walk, sit out, or do a little gardening when the weather allows.
